What is a Quickscan?

Many individuals and (small) companies are working on the development of WIG craft. During this process it is very easy to get lost in your own dreams. Furthermore many people lack specific knowledge or skills in certain areas of the design.

Therefore S.E. Technology now offers the Quickscan, that consists of:

an overall impression of the design, especially focussed on WIG specific problem areas
a comparison of the design and performance parameters with existing and proposed WIG craft in our database
some quick calculations, using rules of thumb and experience parameters

The result of the quickscan is a 10-20 page report, indicating its (technical) viability, including:

an overall impression of the craft with its parameters,
a comparison with other WIG craft in the form of tables and/or graphs,
some calculations on the basis of the geometry and performance parameters
a conclusion: how realistic is the projected craft
reccomendations: what could be improved and how

Why do I need a Quickscan?

Small decisions early in the design stage of any product have huge implications later. Initially in a project it is rather cheap to consider alternatives, later in a project any change costs a lot of time and money. Therefore any (critical) review of a design in its early stages will pay off. Even if just some small details come to light before the engineering or prototype stage it will safe lots of time and money.
The first step of such a review is the Quickscan. S.E. Technology plays the devils advocate and questions design choices on the basis of rules of thumb and an extensive database of WIG craft data.

How can my design be Quickscanned?

As input for the quickscan S.E. Technology needs the following data, prefferably metric:

3 side drawing with dimensions (bitmap or autocad 14 .dwg)
indication of the wing and horizontal tail wing section and angles of incidence, wing root and tip foil and twist (if present)
weight: empty, fuel, payload and maximum and centre of gravity location
performance: take-off speed, cruise speed, maximum speed, range
power: engine type and power (thrust)
control: what controls are there?
intended operation: type A, B or C (see WIG Page for explanation)
any other specifics are welcome but not necessary (coefficients etc.)
