Rules for classification and construction of small type A Ekranoplans


The Russian Maritime Register of Shipping has developed Rules for classification and construction for small type A Ekranoplans, since it was necessary for Russian engineers to have a framework for the development of non-military WIG craft. The basis for these rules are the IMO Rules for classification and construction of sea ships, the Rules for the equipment of sea ships, the rules for safety of craft with dynamic support and some other IMO publications.

These rules are only valid for small Ekranoplans, defined as craft which:

Nevertheless these rules are also interesting, if not inevitable, when considering development or operation of larger WIG craft. Apart from engineers or potential operators this document could also prove very useful for governments or agencies to anticipate future IMO rules on this subject.
