The SM-1 is the first full scale WIG vehicle of this design bureau after a lot of model tests. It is based on a tandem concept. The experimental vehicle is a three seater with a single turbojet and was not very succesful because of its extremely high take-off speed. It made its first flight on 22 July 1961 and it crashed in January 1962.
The span of the rear wing, 3.7 m, was smaller than that of the front wing.
