The original SM-2 was a tandem craft like the SM-1, but it was damaged in a hangar fire and was rebuilt with a rectangular wing and a high T-tail. It was redesignated SM-2P. The SM-2 was to become a three seater with tow RU-19-300 turbojets, one of them nose mounted for PAR under the forward wing.
